As a young man growing up just outside of New York City (Long Island), football was an all-consuming passion.
After making All-Conference in High School, Miles took his talent to the University of New Haven where he had an outstanding collegiate career. Miles was inducted into the University's Hall of Fame and the MVP award was named after him. Miles also set 19 records including most career interceptions (22) and most interceptions in one game (4). In 1980, Miles became the University of New Haven's first football All-American and in 1982, became the school's first player to be drafted into the NFL. Miles started with the Los Angeles Rams, and was later traded to the San Diego Chargers. Miles remembers the first time he tried drugs. He started smoking marijuana as a junior in high school, which led to cocaine use as a rookie in the NFL. His drug habit went on for eight years. Something Different for a Change During his second season in the NFL, Miles noticed something different about two of his teammates, Sherman Smith and Ray Preston. They were humble, gave everyone respect, and their concern for others was sincere. They shared with Miles that God really loved him, and that through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, his life would be filled with meaning and purpose. Finally, at 5 a.m. one morning in 1984, Miles had his first encounter with the person of Jesus Christ. He decided to commit his life to Jesus and asked Him to take control. The Good Life God's power was evident the moment Miles turned everything over to Him. From that point on, Miles was delivered from his drug habit, stopped using foul language and was reunited with his girlfriend, Debbie, who is now Miles' wife.God replaced his selfish, worldly desires with a passion to share His love with others through Miles Ahead Crusades and The Rock Church. Miles is currently the president and founder of The Rock Church and Miles Ahead Crusades. He is married to Debbie and has three children. |
